Prepare Your Child For Rainy Season https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/prepare-your-child-for-rainy-season/ Thu, 04 Jul 2019 05:59:09 +0000 https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/?p=1793 …]]> The rainy season for most people, monsoon is the harbinger of comforting clouds and the cold breeze that sweep away every remnant of heat from the atmosphere. However, with all this pleasantness also comes various health-related risks as well.

Children go berserk when the first rains hit the ground and before you know they will be out on the street, screaming and shouting, and playing around in the rain. You find out about it only when they return home, drenched and sniffling or even sneezing. Children and rain are inseparable, which is why one of the important ways to keeps them safe is to have children’s rain gear in place. And to take care of your child during the rainy season, you have to make your kids “Monsoon Proof” or at least “Monsoon Ready”.

Monsoon and Health

In the rainy season, the humidity levels in the air increase exponentially which creates an ideal atmosphere for germs and bacteria to develop and grow. This is why it’s easy to catch flu or cold if you are not careful.

There are some tips to say healthy this monsoon:

Drinking Safe Water

Drinking water, even if mildly contaminated can cause serious health problems such as jaundice, flu, etc. Thus, it’s important to drink only from trusted sources. When travelling, carry your mineral water bottle instead of drinking from water served at restaurants/eateries.

Avoiding Street Food

The rainy season can often trigger the craving for hot and spicy street food. However, it’s best to avoid eating from local vendors because of the high chances of contamination. We know that waterborne infection like diarrhoea and food poisoning are common during monsoon. We do not know the kind of water they use, to make food outside. It’s better to give him homemade food. Include hot soups and hot milk in his daily diet.

Washing Hands Frequently

It’s a good habit to wash your hands every time you are about to have a meal. However, this practice must be followed more religiously and frequently during the rainy season.

You might take effective care of your child at home, making sure he washes his hands properly. But at school, the same cannot be always ensured. If he plays around during recess and ends up having lunch without washing his hands properly with soap, you are in for a ton of problems, especially in the monsoons. Get him a small sanitizer which he can keep in his bag. Insist on washing hands but let him know that he can quickly clean them with a few drops from the sanitizer as well.

Keeping Mosquitoes at Bay

During the rainy season, water may get collected in small pools on the street, lawns, terrace, etc. These spots become the breeding ground for the mosquitoes that carry the risk of many serious diseases like dengue and malaria. Thus, proper measures should be taken such as keeping the windows closed, using mosquito repellents if necessary, etc.

Build Immunity

Monsoon is the season for cold, flu and other airborne and water-borne infections. It’s better to build good immunity by giving foods which are rich in vitamin C and other foods which help to boost their immune system.

Even supplements rich in vitamins can be given. All though it’s always better to take them in the form of fruits and vegetables.

Switching to a healthier Diet

This requires some participation from your child as well. Rather than give him money to eat food outside, give him healthy snacks to keep in his bag instead. Advise him to say away from street food and give him tasty alternatives instead. Keep them with you too, when stepping outside with your kid.

Some of the foods that are extremely good during the rainy season include freshly prepared soups, garlic, buttermilk, etc. Similarly, food items like fizzy drinks, deep-fried snacks, etc should be avoided whenever possible.

How to Improve Classroom Performance https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/how-to-improve-classroom-performance/ Tue, 18 Jun 2019 10:52:03 +0000 https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/?p=1755 …]]> Student classroom performance is a vital process that helps the student to achieve a greater goal in the future.
But even the brightest students can sometimes find themselves academically underperforming, often through no fault of their own. When Student find themselves in this situation, it’s often because they’re stuck in a rut and are not sure what to do to improve.
If this sounds like you, the first step is to work out the reasons why you may be underperforming, and the next step is to work out how to tackle the problem. There are some points to improve your classroom performance:-

Adopt a Positive Mental Attitude:

In the face of lower than expected grades, it’s only human to react by feeling disappointed with oneself. When you’re frequently receiving lower grades than you’d hoped for, you may start to feel depressed or defeated, and feel like giving up. The first step on the road to improving your grades is to turn this negativity on its head. You need to be positive about the situation if you’re to stand a chance of improving it. Acknowledge that your grades aren’t what you’re aiming for, but believe that you can do something about it.
Start by mentally taking control of the situation, instead of thinking “I m a failure”, Think “I can and will do better than this.” And don’t give up – take positive steps towards achieving the improvement you’re more than capable of achieving.

Work Out where you’re Falling Short:

You need to work out which areas need targeting before you can draw up a plan of action, so the next step is to figure out the areas in which you’re underperforming, and why. Are your grade consistently lower than you’d like them to be across all your subjects? Or is there one particular area you’re struggling with that bringing down your overall performance in a particular subject, Take a look at your grade over the last few months and look for patterns. Has there been a general decline in academic achievement, or have your grade in certain areas always been lower than you’d hoped?

Talk to your Teachers:

Your teachers know you best, so it’s worth talking to them when you’re drawing up a plan of action for improving your grades. Ask them where they think you need to improve, and they’ll probably have some advice on how you can go about it. Coupled with the advice in the rest of this blog, this should allow you to tailor an action plan to your situation.

Pay more Attention in Class – and Ask Questions:

If you’re prone to daydreaming in class, it’s time to start focusing on the here and now. Listen to what the teacher is saying rather than talking with friends or allowing your mind to wander. Don’t simply copy down what on the board without thinking about it. Make sure you’ve understood it, and make neat notes so that you can understand them when you come back to them (More on that later). And don’t be afraid to speak up if there’s something you don’t understand or want to clarify.
It’s much easier to ask a teacher to explain something different than it is to trawl through books trying to find a clearer explanation for yourself, and they won’t think less of you for asking.

Start Organizing your life:

Clutter of any kind inhibits our ability to operate efficiently, so another way of improving your classroom performance is to get organized. Keep your workspace tidy and all your notes and textbooks organized in such a way that you know where everything is. Start thinking more about your time management, too, as this will allow you to prioritize your time effectively, freeing time for problem subjects.

Write yourself a daily timetable that incorporates your school schedule, dividing your day into slots of time and fitting in plenty of time for studying. Allocate extra time to subjects or topics you’ve identified as being ones you’re struggling with, it could be that the reason for your underperformance in these subjects is that you’re simply not devoting enough time to them.

Importance of Library in Schools https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/importance-of-library-in-schools/ Tue, 04 Jun 2019 11:52:23 +0000 https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/?p=1749 …]]> The library occupies a very important place in school. Here they find an environment which is conducive to the building up of habit of self-learning. The library is the centre of the intellectual and social activities of the school. The library has got a very wholesome effect on the work of the school.

In a library, the atmosphere is very calm and disciplined. It helps students to keep concentration on their studies. Libraries are the only place where we are free from all convention because reading is a matter of personal choice.

A habit of reading can be cultivated. When students get practice in reading and reading habit in the beginnings are made firm and when the student is read which interests them and occupies their attention.

In the classroom, the book that is prescribed may not serve the purpose. Some students may not be in a position to purchase all books that they want to read, while others may not find books that are of interest to them.

Interest differ, aptitude varies, and individual capacities present a wide variation in students reading capacities. In the library, each has what they want, each goes with their own pace to which his/her capabilities allow him to go. The library is thus, a common platform upon which all student meet on a common level with equal opportunities. It is the nucleus of the school environment, the centre of the intellectual activities of the school.

A library is an important source of knowledge to young minds in schools. It develops the important habit of reading among the student. School library helps children to improve:-

Subject study:

It is the house of knowledge. In a library, students can find books on various subject such as history, geography, environment, political science, literature, etc.

A school library exhibits a positive impact on the academic achievement of the student. Student can perform better during examinations by reading various books.

Positivity:

Positive thinking sounds useful on the surface. But positive thinking is also and fluffy term that is easy to dismiss. In the real world, it rarely carries the same weight as words like work ethic or persistence.

Positive thinking is not a theoretical philosophy, but a way of life.

It can sound a bit disheartening that we must learn how to think positive because it’s not an innate skill. However, the good news is, you can learn the skill of positive thinking fast and easy.

Improve Skill Set:

Cognitive abilities are brain-based skills we need to carry out any task from the simplest to the most complex. They have more to do with the mechanisms of how we learn, remember, problem solve, and pay attention, rather than with any actual knowledge.

Creativity:

Creative thinking means looking at something in a new way. It is the very definition of “Thinking outside the box”. Reading book helps your kids to think “Outside the Box” and do new things.

Quick Thinking:

Quick thinking is the process in which you’ll get test your knowledge with a quiz. Reading more book help your kids to build a foundation for critical thinking.

As the proper use of the well-equipped school library is essential for the official working of every educational institution and for encouraging literary and cultural interests in students, every secondary school should have such a library. Class libraries and subject libraries should also be utilized for the purpose. The subject teachers can enrich their teaching greatly with the help of small collections of books in their subjects.

This should not be confined to textbooks only. Advance work, reference books, books on a related subject and allied field, all these will find a place in that collection. Most of the teachers. Have no idea of what a majority of student are reading or whether they are reading at all. So the commission recommended that a systematic register should be maintained. And each student must be allotted a few pages of the register in which all books studied by him are entered date wise.

Hence, the library is an essential part of the student’s life. They should take full advantages of the libraries available. A student should also remember that they should not misuse the library books by marking them with ink or tearing off their pages, required by the students. Library books must be kept properly.

How to Prepare Your Child for School https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/how-to-prepare-your-child-for-school/ Tue, 28 May 2019 12:55:49 +0000 https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/?p=1747 …]]> Starting school can be a difficult time for children. Every child is hesitant to go somewhere new and see people that they never met before. Here are some helpful ways to prepare your child for his/her first day of school:

Orientation Session:

Find out when school runs an orientation session and make the time to attend. This allows staffs to get to know your child and your child to meet other children who will be starting school at the same time. Find out basic rules such as where children are allowed to play as well as routines and expectation from school staff – for example, what day does sports uniform need to be worn or library bag need to be taken to school. This will enable you and your child to be prepared for what happens at school.

Establish a Routine:

Starting school does change their schedule. Let your child know what time school starts and ends each day so that they know what to anticipate. Set up the routine you will be keeping to during the school week. Get your child used to going to bed early and waking up earlier. Talk about when they should be doing their homework and if there will be any restriction on TV time in the evenings. Try to start following this routine about 1 month before school begins.

Talk about school:

Spend some time together talking about what a day in school will be like. Encourage your child to share any concerns that they might have and address them together. This will give you an insight into whether your child is excited or anxious about school. If they are anxious, tell them how going to school is fun and that it is perfectly normal to feel jittery. Also, reassure them that if any problem arises at school, you will always be there to resolve them. This assurance will better prepare your child for school.

Talk about Making New friends:

Going to a new school often means saying goodbye to old friends and making new ones. Talk to your child about what can do to make a new friend. Reassure them that they will still be able to see their pre-school friends. Set up some play dates with their pre-school classmates within the first 2 months of primary school so that your child can continue to maintain these friendships.

If you’re new to the school or you have a tendency to be shy and introverted, making new friends at school might seem like a challenge. Luckily, you can overcome that challenge by looking for people with the same interests as you and by being friendly when you meet new people. Also, participate in extracurricular clubs and events whenever you get the chance since that will help you meet people outside of class.

Teach them to Take Care of their Things:

Children will need to be able to care for their school things. Help your child practice packing and unpacking the backpack they will be using for school. Make sure that a child’s backpack can be easily recognized as theirs. Practice eating recess and lunch food out of their school lunch box which is easy as possible to open and close, letting them open any packaging that will be used for food at school.

When children complete basic self-help tasks such as zipping their coats or tying their shoes, they feel a great sense of pride. Independence builds confidence and self-esteem. In school, children will be expected to do many things on their own. To make sure your child in independent in school.

Encourage Positive or Appropriate Behavior:

Children need to be able to do what the teacher asks, follow rules, and interact appropriately with both adults and other children.

Behaviour is usually a way that children try to tell you something, so it’s important to determine what your child is trying to communicate with their behaviour. This gives you the chance to teach the child a positive behaviour, get support as early as possible. Once your child settles in, it is important to continue to support their development.

One of the most effective ways to encourage this of positive behaviour is by rewarding it. When your child behaves in a positive way, give specific praise, for example – great talking turn; show affection positive emotion, for example, big smile, hugs or high fives; or use tangible rewards including stickers, a star on a chart or a special game with Mum or Dad.

Importance of English Medium School https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/importance-of-english-medium-school/ Fri, 24 May 2019 07:18:18 +0000 https://www.mentorinternationalschool.com/?p=1732 …]]> English played a very important role these days. English is also awarded as the second national language in India. As it meets the requirement of the modern world.

In today’s era, there is a strong need for a person knowing English, especially in India. This won’t surprise you but locals are giving respect to the people who can fluently speak English.

This does not mean that we are giving less importance to local languages like Hindi, Marathi, etc. However English is a common medium to communicate between peoples belonging from vibrant culture, distinct religions as well as different nations etc.

When it comes to primary education in India, there has been a huge discussion for a decade’s regarding the best medium for providing education. While many prefer “Hindi” or another regional medium as the best way to give education to children because of the easy understanding of the local language in a particular region.

There is also a large section of the population which thinks English is the best medium of transmission of knowledge and information. As it is accepted worldwide and also tends to develop the personality of a child.

The regional medium can be an effective way of education to some extent but the advantages of English medium school are far too many. Let us discuss some of the advantages of English medium schools:

Start Thinking in English:

English is the most widely spoken language throughout the world. So if the kid gets there primary education in English Medium School, their fluency on the English language is surely going to increase, which will help the kids in the future. Mentor International School encouraged the children to communicate in English both with teachers and friends. This practice will increase their communication skills in the English language.

Benefits of Career Scope:

In future, whichever stream your child wants to pursue, they have to know English. The modern form of education is incomplete without a good knowledge of English.

These days most of the job interviews are taken in English. Every organization wants their candidate to be fluent in English. In fact, in the current scenario, the English language has become the industrial language of India.

This world has become a global village and English has become its global language. Therefore, knowledge of good English, in today’s world is not a power that one possesses but a necessity that every talented individual should master. Mentor International School help your children to reach that position.

Connectivity With The Rest Of The World:

To communicate and be on par with the world, the first language that stands common is English. With English, a student can remain on par with what is happening across the globe. Lack of English knowledge or alone mother tongue does not allow children to progress with the rest of the world.

There are many MNC’s in India they offering huge job opportunities. If you want to see your kid there, then we warn you that English is the primary language speaking over there.

Technologies Can Be Used Only With English Instruction:

Most of the modern technologies are invented, reinvented and modernized in foreign shores. The inventors keep the English language for the instruction manual of the technological gadget so that the gadget can be used worldwide.

Therefore to be updated with the latest technological gadget. Which means getting updated with the latest trend, early knowledgeable English language is an absolute necessity.

Higher Education Emphasizes On The English language:

The main focus of teaching medium in higher secondary as well as in graduation and post-graduation colleges in India. There is no doubt that lecturers also teach in Hindi or other regional languages. However, question design comes in both English and regional language. But most of the classes are taught in English.

Moreover, if a student wants to prepare for international colleges for higher education, English is the only medium in which he/she can survive. Therefore, English medium school becomes very much important here.

The good part of sending your child to English medium school is, they learn both talking and writing in English. To progress in career, both written and spoken English beholds importance. To ensure, your child learns both speaking and writing – send them to Mentor International School where entire communication is taught in English.
